Canberra



Canberra is the capital of Australia, it is a young city. Its total population is 32.5 million (2004), the eighth in Australia. The total area is 2395km^2, there is more than 50% of the area are national parks or reserves. It is 240 km far from Sydney, and 500km from Melbourne.

Parliament House of Australia is on the Capital Hill. The top of the building is a giant 81-meter flagpole, the Australian flag flying in the city's highest point. The Parliament House are opened to visitors. It is built in 1988, which is Australian 200th anniversary, and instead of the old Parliament House near the Griffin Lake.It is designed by an American designer.

  1. A lot of people in Sydney look down on Canberra, but it's actually fascinating for a look at the workings of the country! Places like Questacon are also great for the young and the young-at-heart!
